Sensory Friendly Saturday Morning with SICSA

This is an open-house style event so guests can enjoy the following activities in the order that they wish. We’ll have the following activities available throughout the morning:
– Go on a scavenger hunt at your leisure.
– Visit our canine companions in Pup Town (with noise-reduction headphones or earplugs available on a first come-first served basis)
– Read to our feline friends in Kitty City (with two dedicated private cool-down spaces for self-regulation including fidget toys, soft blankets, and stuffed friends to hold)
– Meet certified therapy pets from Miami Valley Pet Therapy Association in Humane Education Room A
– Enjoy coloring sheets and light refreshments in Humane Education Room B (with easy access to our outdoor courtyard, just across the parking lot from our Peace Garden if you need some quiet time and fresh air)

We will have noise reduction headphones available for check out and ear plugs you may take home (limited number available, given out on first come-first served basis), fidget toys free to take home (1 per guest while supplies last), and light refreshments.

There will be directional signage posted throughout the building and extra volunteers available to answer questions. This event is open to people of all ages and sensory needs, with special considerations being made for those with sensory sensitivities. Please note that this is an open event and crowd size may vary.

Adoptions will not be available during the event. We will not be able to take any pets out of their kennels during the event. Miami Valley Pet Therapy Association will have dogs that guests may interact with, and guests may sit in the free-roaming rooms with adoptable cats during reading. If you find a pet you are interested in, you may speak to the Adoption Staff when we open at noon, though there may be a wait before they can go through counseling with you.
