Adoption Process

Steps to Adopt a Pet

In order to ensure the safety of our customers, staff, and volunteers, we have modified our adoption process. As recommendations from health officials change, we will continue to modify our processes as appropriate and do our best to provide excellent customer service while also prioritizing your health and safety.

  1. Visit our adoptable dogs and adoptable cats web pages to view animals currently available for adoption.
  2. Complete the online pre-adoption questionnaire for either cats or dogs.
  3. Call 937-294-6505 and select option 3 in order to make an appointment with an adoption counselor. Generally, adoptions are by appointment only, but please give us a call to ask about our ability to do walk-in adoptions.
  4. Meet with an adoption counselor trained to help make the best match! The adoption counselors are here to answer any questions you may have about our pets and about adoption.
  5. If necessary, we can help introduce all household residents, including the furry ones, to your new family member.
  6. Complete the adoption and go home with your furry friend! Plan on at least 30 minutes minimum to take your new pet home.

Adoption Holds

Adoption Holds

We do not place holds on animals who are not yet available for adoption. When they become available, they are generally adopted on a first come, first served basis. However, we will sometimes place an available animal on hold for an approved adopter for up to 24 hours if we need to arrange a meet and greet with other pets in the home or if an adopter needs to make arrangements with a landlord.

Try a Slumber Party!

Slumber Parties

During our adoption process, we strive to make good matches between people and pets; however, we recognize that there can be some unknowns in terms of how an animal will fit into your home. Slumber parties can help alleviate some of those concerns! Slumber parties allow you to take an animal home for a specified amount of time to see how they do in your home environment before committing to an adoption. Not every animal will be eligible for a slumber party, so talk with the adoption staff during your visit to find out more information.
