VolunTeen Program

VolunTeen Program

Teens ages 13-17 can make a difference for animals! Our teen volunteer program opens registration quarterly for a maximum of 25 young adults. Teens must attend Orientation, and successfully complete animal focused training classes geared especially for them in our Paws and Tails Academy, and then can choose to volunteer independently as their schedule allows, AND participate in our Teen Animal Inspired Leaders Society Club. Teen Advocates can choose to participate in additional trainings, animal welfare and humane education programs, teen-led fundraisers, field trips, and social events. Check our Upcoming Events in the right sidebar to registration for an upcoming Orientation - Registration in advance is required, and sessions fill up quickly, don't miss out!

"SICSA has an outstanding VolunTeen program, one of the best in the country! They offer a variety of ways for teens to volunteer their time with shelter pets, helping to save precious lives in their community, while learning more about humane education. Their VolunTeen Program is well organized and engaging; feedback from these teens speaks to how welcomed and embraced they feel by the staff and other volunteers." Kimberly Elman, Manager, National Outreach Volunteer Programs, Best Friends Animal Society®

Scholarship Opportunities

Click here to apply for reduced program fees

A limited number of reduced fee spots are available each Orientation. If you are approved for reduced fees you will still need to register for Orientation using a special code provided by email.

Fields marked with an * are required

Our one-time program fees for volunteering are intended to offset the material cost of uniform (shirt, apron, leash), and facilitation of 6 hours of required training by our humane education staff, as well as ongoing support of volunteers through developmentally appropriate coaching & mentorship, verification of service, letters of recommendation, references, and a variety of educational opportunities throughout the year. We understand that not everyone is able to pay, and believe these opportunities should be accessible to everyone, but ask that VolunTeens honor the investment we make in them by completing all required training courses, and volunteering regularly. Volunteers who lapse 6 months of service will be deactivated and required to complete refresher training before resuming volunteering to maintain a high quality of care for our pets, and to assist VolunTeens with development of job and leadership skills.

After clicking submit a confirmation email will be sent to the email you provided.
