It’s raining kittens and puppies at SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center! From volunteers, to staff, to fosters, it takes a village to ensure all of these babies are well taken care of until they are ready for their forever homes. If you would like to lend a helping paw with these bundles of joy, there are lots of ways to get involved!
1. Collect donations or send items from our Amazon Foster Wish List for the SICSA Foster Program.
Pregnant moms, puppies, and kittens often spend time with our incredible Foster Volunteers until they are ready for adoption. SICSA provides all of our fosters with anything they may need to take care of these pets. Young kittens and puppies require extra special care, and often require unique items. These items can include, but are not limited to, food for the mothers, formula for kittens and puppies, Miracle Nipples, and syringes for feeding. It is through the help of donations from our Foster Wishlist that we are able to supply our selfless fosters with these resources.
2. Become a SICSA Foster Volunteer!
Our Foster Volunteers are truly the heroes of kitten and puppy season at SICSA. Fostering can be an immensely rewarding experience, especially when caring for pregnant mothers and their babies. While their care is unique, the joy that comes with aiding a mother through the birth of her kittens or puppies, and helping to ensure their healthy growth, can be extraordinary. The best part of fostering with SICSA is that you are never alone. With our on-call Foster Coordinator, access to veterinary care, and available resources, Foster Volunteers can feel supported throughout their time as a foster. 3. Adopt, and encourage others to do the same!
We will be the first to admit that kittens and puppies are adorable, and we definitely understand why people may choose to adopt younger animals. If you or someone you know is looking to welcome a puppy or kitten into your home, one way you can help not just SICSA but local shelters in general, is by adopting and encourage others to do the same. With so many puppies and kittens being born each year, there are numerous opportunities to find the perfect pup or kitty for you at SICSA or another local shelter. When you adopt, you provide a home for a pet that would otherwise go without. Adoption is a great way to add some puppy or kitten love to your family, while helping a pet in need.
4. Spay or neuter your pets.
While we love meeting new puppies and kittens each year, we would love even more to prevent accidental litters and the health and housing concerns that can accompany them. When you spay or neuter your pet, you become part of the solution in ending pet homelessness. While some pregnant mothers are lucky enough to make their way to SICSA and other rescue organizations, many are not. This leaves them to give birth on the streets with no access to veterinary care for the mothers or their babies. This can lead to preventable illnesses, and even deaths. Beyond this, the moms and dads who parent these litters can experience complications later in life, such as cancer and tumors among their reproductive organs. Overall, spaying and neutering your pets is one major way to save lives.
No matter how you choose to get involved, the puppies and kittens of our community will greatly appreciate your support!
