In 2020, many of us yearned for the day we could safely venture out in public and socialize like we used to before the pandemic began. At the same time, many animals were eager to return to the place we sought to escape: home. Through our Adoption program, we were grateful to help them do just that.
Over the past year, SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center united over 16,000 pets with loving families. While we faced our share of challenges in navigating operations during COVID-19, our Adoption and Placements team stepped up in a major way. By moving to appointment-only adoptions, enforcing social distancing and mask wearing, and offering phone-based adoption counseling, our Adoption Counselors were vital in SICSA’s ability to continue to serve the Greater Dayton community.
In November, the team went above and beyond. As the year drew to a close, these resilient animal advocates were able to set a new record for adoptions in a single month at SICSA, placing 225 animals in just 30 days. As a result of their efforts, these pets found comfortable homes where they enjoyed the first of many holidays to come with their new families.
While the past twelve months have been a source of great trial, they have also offered life-altering joy for so many animals in need. While we reflect on our challenges, we must also celebrate our accomplishments. We are so grateful to have sent these pets home with kind-hearted, compassionate adopters, and we cannot wait to unite even more families in 2021.
