Like most things in 2020, Clear the Shelters looked a bit different this year. Instead of the usual single day adoption promotion, this year the event spanned across the entire month of August. SICSA was happy to participate in all four weeks of the event.
During the first week, we raised donations through our Greater Good link, where the organization matched the donations made by our generous supporters. We also used this week to educate the public on where there donations go, and how they are used here at SICSA. During the second week, we offered two cat adoption promotions. If someone adopted one kitten, they could adopt a second for a waived adoption fee. On top of this, we offered $10.00 adult cat adoption fees. With this week-long promotion, we saw more than 40 cats and kittens find their forever homes! For week three, we once again turned our attention to donations, but offered a fun twist: anyone who donated $5.00 or more was able to name an adoptable animal!
For the final week of Clear the Shelters, we offered our “grand finale”. On Saturday, August 29th, we hosted a “Name Your Own Adoption Fee” event! On this day alone, we were able to send 25 cats and dogs home. By the end of August, SICSA was able to find loving families for 206 animals! This is the highest number of adoptions we’ve had in our new building, and ties for the highest number we had in our old building, in a single month!
Overall, the entire month was a wonderful celebration of adoption, donation, and general support for homeless animals not only in the Dayton area, but across the entire United States. Thank you to all who participated! We’re already counting down the days until next year!
