Boston Stoker and SICSA: A Blend Made in Heaven

February 14th, 2020

Something special has been brewing between Boston Stoker and SICSA. After a month under wraps, we are ecstatic to finally share our delicious secret with all of you! Without any further anticipation, we introduce to you: The SICSA Blend! This sweet smelling roast will make you feel as warm and fuzzy as the pups and kittens each bag supports. Whether purchasing here at SICSA, or offsite at one of Boston Stoker’s own locations, you can rest assured that your coffee is supporting the SICSA mission. With 50% of every bag purchased at SICSA, and $1.00 of every bag purchased at Boston Stoker, directly supporting SICSA, we are grateful to partner with such an incredible company.

Tasting the blend is as simple as stopping by SICSA’s new Washington Township location! Here, through the generosity of Boston Stoker, we are able to provide complimentary cups of the SICSA blend in both Kitty City’s Cat Cafe and Pup Town’s K9 Cafe. Both caffeinated and decaffeinated options are available at our self-serve stations. If you love the blend as much as we do, you can pick up a bag in the Gift Shop of the Adoptions Lobby.

We are so excited to finally share this partnership with all of you. So stop by, grab a cup, and meet your new fur-ever friend!

An Update on the Kettering Facility

January 3rd, 2020

As we reach this exciting time in SICSA’s history, we can’t help but look back on all the wonderful years we spent at 2600 Wilmington Pike. We’re sure you’re wondering many things about that facility, and we want to help answer those questions the best we can.

SICSA plans to move all services to Washington Township, mothballing the building on Wilmington Pike in Kettering, and eventually putting it up for sale.  We own the current building, which sits on two acres of land.  As much as we would like to keep some kind of services in Kettering, the Washington Township location was built to accommodate all our current and expanding program needs.  As such, it doesn’t make sense to have staff at two different locations, maintaining two operating budgets, etc.

We know many of you have asked about the bricks out front of the old building. We will be taking the bricks with us!  Our plan is to add them to our landscaping plans for the spring.  We are concerned about the shape some of the bricks are in and will be trying to address that as soon as we are able.

If you’re looking for a way to leave your mark on the new building, consider purchasing a square in our collage. This is a more permanent way to leave your mark.

The Moving Process and Dates

January 3rd, 2020

We are currently in the middle of our big move to our new facility! As we work out the details of our move, and how the process is going to work, we want to share them with you.

On Sunday, January 5th, our Kettering location closed to the public and the packing process began. We continued to pack through Tuesday, January 7th. Beginning on Wednesday, January 8th, the moving company started to load our items into the moving trucks. This process will take approximately two to three days. Starting on Thursday, January 10th, the moving crew will begin moving our belongings over to the new facility located at 8172 Washington Church Road. Then, the week of January 13th-20th, the staff will begin to unpack their belongings, assess new needs, get used to the new building and processes, and see if everything is working properly before opening to the public.

After the moving process, we will have several weeks of time where we will be open to the public on a limited basis, but not open for tours.   A “soft opening” of sorts. Then on February 8th, we will have our Grand Opening with our “new normal” happening after that. More information will soon be out about our Grand Opening but for now, save February 8th so you can be a part.

What an exciting time! We’re sure you have questions now about the current facility, which you can read in the next article.

Vet Equipment Preview

June 28th, 2019

Last year, SICSA’s medical team performed over 4,000 community and in-house spay/neuter procedures, as well as over 10,000 in-house assessments and vaccinations in a converted broom closet.  As you, our Members know, the fact is that SICSA has outgrown our facility, including our Veterinary Clinic. In order to help raise critical funds to ensure that we are able to meet our growing needs for necessary animal care, we will be creating a Crowdfunding campaign in July

Our Vet Clinic desperately needs a new autoclave, which currently has a broken lid. The autoclave is a pressure chamber used to carry out industrial processes requiring elevated temperature and pressure different from ambient air pressure. A new autoclave will cost SICSA approximately $6,500.

The other need is a new surgical table. This table will be mainly used for our high volume spay and neuter clinic. The approximate cost of a new surgical table is $3,000.

With these items, SICSA can take another step towards disease management and better utilize the clinic that will be at our new facility.

The exciting aspect of this July/ August campaign is that we have a matching gift. That means every  $5 donated turns into $10! We hope that you will help us spread the word once we go live with this campaign. As SICSA Members, you are our best advocates and have the opportunity to help our campaign succeed.
