SICSA Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers make the world go around at SICSA by giving their time and talent in a variety of ways.  Last year 300+ volunteers donated almost 17,000 hours of their time. 

Here are just some of the ways volunteers support the animals, save lives and improve the quality of life for abandoned animals:

Animal Care

Training & Behavior

Customer service

  • Greet visitors and explain programs and services
  • Answer Phones
  • Process paperwork

Maintenance

  • Landscaping/Lawn Care
  • Painting/Construction
  • Cleaning

Fund Raising

  • Event Planning & Management
  • Graphic Design
  • Friends of SICSA.  These are craft oriented volunteers who meet once a month to work on craft projects for bazaars and other fundraising events. 

Clerical

  • Bulk Mail Preparation
  • Paperwork/Filing/Phones
  • Data entry  

Education/Community Services

  • Speakers
  • Pet Therapy visits.

Junior Volunteer Program

SICSA’s Junior Volunteer Program is open to teenagers, thirteen to eighteen years old, who want to learn about cats and dogs and responsible pet ownership.

Juniors have a choice of assisting Animal Care Technicians with:

  • DOGS
    • walking, brushing, and playing with the puppies
    • cleaning cages, mopping floors, scooping the yard
  • CATS
    • cuddling, brushing, and feeding the kittens
    • cleaning cages, sweeping floors, scooping litter boxes

A limited number of Junior Volunteers may participate in the program since only four-hour shifts on Saturday or Sunday and summer weekday mornings may be scheduled.

How to Participate

An interview and a training session must be completed before a Junior may begin volunteer work.

Expectations

Upon completion of training a Junior will be expected to volunteer at least eight hours a month for three months.
