Surrendering an Animal
SICSA is a limited intake adoption center. To surrender a dog or be accepted into our foster cat program the pet must first be seen by our veterinarian for a physical exam.
Dogs must pass a SAFER test, a statewide behavior assessment tool. All pets are assessed an surrender fee, depending on the pets age and past veterinary care.
Dogs:
To surrender a dog, please make an appointment with the Kennel Manager at 294-6505 extension 11. Please bring the dog’s veterinary records to appointment if possible.
Cats:
To be accepted in our foster cat program, please call our Kennel Manager at 294-6505 extension 11 to schedule at time to bring the cat in for a vet check appointment. Please bring the cat's veterinary records to appointment if possible.
*We can rarely accept a cat or kitten (in our adoption program) to be housed at SICSA, due to limited space and cat overpopulation. We have over 200 cats in our adoption program on a daily basis, therefore we have instituted a cat foster program for families that need assistance.
Because of the high volume of calls about surrendering a cat, SICSA is utilizing a waiting list. Call Emma (937-294-6505 x 11) if you are interested in this program. She will call back, verify some information, and put you on the list. When an appointment becomes available she will call you, and set up an appointment for the animal to come in to see our vet. From there the animal may either need to be fostered by the owner/finder, or may come directly into the building. Spots available in the building are very limited. Intake fees paid at the time of first vet visit.
