Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a fence?
Not in every case; in some cases SICSA requires an adopter have a fenced yard due to the dog’s character traits to make sure he is safe in his new home.

Do I need to own a home to adopt?
No, you do not need to own a home to adopt a pet from SICSA. If you live in an apartment SICSA will need a letter from your landlord or copy of your lease that states you are allowed to have pets.

Can I return the pet if it doesn’t work out?
SICSA adoption counselors go to great lengths so that this does not happen. However, you can return your pet to SICSA within 6 months of adoption without a SAFER behavior test. After 6 months the pet will have to pass the SAFER test before we can accept him into our adoption program.

Do my pets at home have to be up-to-date in their vaccines for me to adopt another pet?
Yes, all pets in the home must be up-to-date on vaccines and spayed or neutered (unless you have a breeders license or the animal is used for the show) before you adopt another pet.
